Sat 18th Jan - Abbey Park parkrun
Why not come along to experience a fabulous parkrun in Leicester, with other club members from DRR. The course is situated all in Abbey Park, which is really pretty, and more importantly very flat. The only elevation comes from a bridge that you cross twice (over and then back about a kilometre or so later). This means that it is suitable for all abilities and a good place for a faster time than Daventry.
Parking: Morningside Arena, Unit 10, Charter Street, LE1 3UD - free parking, please do not use the arena parking on Memory Lane but use the parkrun signed parking at unit 10 on Charter Street. This has limited parking spaces, but if you get there before 8:30, you should beat the locals who drive there. Otherwise there are other pay and display car parks in the area (please check the Abbey park parkrun website for details of these).
Toilets: Located in a block about 300 metres away from the start/finish.
If you have a club shirt please wear this, and we will do a group photo at 8.45am.
As normal we will cheer all club members home, and if your still energetic after your run, it would be nice to run back and support others.
Course Description: A one lap course, all on tarmac paths. The course starts and finishes at the boating lake in the centre of the park, and takes in all parts of the historic park including the river, ornamental gardens, cricket oval and ruins, boating lake and pavilion.
Surface: 100% Tarmac hard path.
Food after: There is a cafe inside the course route, just over the bridge, which is ideal for spectators to come along and sit in the warm and watch the runners go by. This will be our destination for a cuppa and some food afterwards. It is only a few hundred metres walk from the start/finish of the parkrun.
